HFMD

Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease (HFMD) is spreading among us! Selangor records 6,748 HFMD cases as of May 7, and the weekly number of cases have exceeded the warning levels. The increasing cases mainly among children under age of 7 as they are the high risk group for HFMD.

How does it spread?

HFMD viruses are normally transmitted through saliva or mucus (during cough or sneeze), close contacts (hugging or kissing); faeces (when changing diapers) or sharing utensils.

How to stop the transmission?

To prevent further spread, parents should do your parts to keep your children hands clean all the time, teach them to cover their mouth or nose when they cough or sneeze and quarantine them if they show symptoms of HFMD.

Is there any cure for HFMD?

So far there is no cure and vaccine for HFMD, but the symptoms should subside by itself within a week.
